Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has alleged that his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola, was behind the freezing of the state government’s account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Speaking at the Arise Town Hall for Osun governorship candidates ahead of the August 15 poll, Adeleke claimed Oyetola used the name of President Bola Tinubu and federal institutions to pressure his administration.
“I am sure he (Oyetola) told EFCC to freeze our account, that Mr. President said it should be frozen,” Adeleke stated.
According to the governor, the situation shifted after President Tinubu personally reached out to him, expressing shock and embarrassment over the development.
Adeleke said Tinubu assured him that such actions were unacceptable and emphasized his commitment to free and fair elections.
Adeleke further accused Oyetola, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, of exploiting his ties with Tinubu to pursue political interests in Osun.
He alleged that Oyetola had not recovered from his defeat in the 2022 governorship election and was determined to undermine the state.
“Oyetola is feeling that pain of defeat. He is only using the President to vow that he will destroy Osun State. He is using federal might,” Adeleke charged.
The rivalry between Adeleke and Oyetola has remained intense since the 2022 election, which Adeleke won against the then-incumbent.
Adeleke is now seeking a second four-year term in office.Would you like me to make this rewrite more neutral, more dramatic, or more concise for quick reading?
