The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, describing the outcome of Saturday’s governorship poll as a resounding victory for democracy and the people of the state.
In a statement issued Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party commended Adeleke’s success despite what it alleged was intimidation and the heavy deployment of government resources by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The ADC praised opposition parties and their supporters for uniting to resist what it termed “APC tyranny,” noting that the election proved voters could withstand pressure and assert their will at the ballot box.
“The people of Osun have shown Nigerians that no political machine is greater than a determined electorate,” the statement read.
The party alleged that more than 30 governors, alongside top federal lawmakers and officials, were mobilised to Osun in support of the APC.
It added that despite heavy security presence and reports of violence and arrests, voters turned out in large numbers. While celebrating Adeleke’s victory, the ADC raised concerns over the suspension of result uploads on the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), claiming the interruption was politically motivated.
The party demanded a full explanation from the electoral commission, warning that such incidents could foreshadow challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The lesson is unmistakable: no deployment is large enough to defeat a people who have lost their fear,” the ADC declared, stressing that government power cannot dictate choices inside the ballot booth.
