The presidential candidate of a faction of the Accord Party, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, has withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race and endorsed the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu.Imumolen, who also serves as a factional National Chairman of the party, announced the decision in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said it followed extensive consultations with the party’s leadership.Describing the move as a patriotic sacrifice, he stated that national unity, stability, and continuous development must take precedence over personal political ambition.
“Following my emergence as the presidential candidate of the Accord Party during the duly conducted presidential primaries, I, in consultation with the leadership of the party, made the patriotic decision to withdraw from the presidential race and fully support the re-election of President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election,” he said.
“This decision was not borne out of personal interest, but from a deep conviction that the unity, stability, and continued progress of Nigeria must take precedence over personal political ambition.”
Imumolen listed 10 reasons for backing Tinubu’s re-election, noting that the President’s reform agenda closely aligns with his own manifesto, particularly in areas such as economic transformation, education, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, industrialisation, and national development.
He praised Tinubu’s resilience in navigating Nigeria’s complex political and economic challenges, describing it as evidence of uncommon courage, determination, and strategic leadership.
He also highlighted the President’s political wisdom, foresight, nation-building capacity, and commitment to progressive governance through institutional reforms and continuity.
Imumolen further noted Tinubu’s ability to identify capable individuals, build consensus, promote national unity, and take difficult decisions in the national interest.
He expressed confidence that the President is uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between Nigeria’s founding democratic leaders and the emerging generation of transformational leaders.
Despite current economic challenges, he said he remained convinced that Tinubu’s policy direction, fiscal discipline, and decisive leadership would reposition the economy for sustainable prosperity.
