Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has declared that President Bola Tinubu will not remain in office beyond the 2027 general elections, suggesting Nigeria could face a political situation similar to Venezuela.
In a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, Melaye wrote: “Home is calling. Work plenty for home. Tinubu must go. Venezuela go happen for Naija.”
His remarks came after reports that a U.S. District Judge, Beryl Howell, granted attorney Jeanine Pirro additional time to release alleged drug-trafficking records linked to Tinubu.
Observers noted Melaye’s reference to Venezuela followed the January 2026 arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife on drug and weapons charges.
Melaye, a vocal critic of the administration, has consistently used social media to express opposition to Tinubu’s leadership, framing 2027 as a turning point for Nigeria’s political future.
