A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has called on President Bola Tinubu and his family to begin packing their belongings from the Aso Rock Presidential Villa ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Melaye made the remarks on Monday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time.He argued that a wide disconnect exists between the Tinubu administration and Nigerians, pointing to widespread hunger, insecurity and corruption as clear evidence.
The former senator also criticised the government for what he described as its “nonchalance” and took aim at President Tinubu’s earlier controversial statement that “all is fair in politics.”
“The president and his family members should begin to pack their luggage from the Aso Rock Villa, including those in the Boys’ Quarters,” Melaye said.
“The results will tell in January because there will be a change of government in 2027.”He expressed confidence in the ADC’s prospects, saying the party’s path to victory is straightforward because the public has grown weary of poor governance.
“The people are with us. The people are tired of maladministration, lies, borrowing, three budgets and three successions not being implemented.”
Melaye accused the administration of failing to implement budgets properly, noting that funds have been borrowed yet contracts awarded as far back as 2024 remain unpaid and that the 2024 budget is still being executed in 2026.
“The people in this country have blood flowing through their veins and not kerosene, so they respond to stimuli,” he said.
“This disenchantment, the hunger, insecurity, killings, stealing and obvious stealing that is going on in the land have already shown and demonstrated that there is a complete disconnect between the people and the government.”
Contrasting the current administration with previous ones, Melaye claimed that under earlier leaders, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, governments feared the people when taking decisions.
Under Tinubu, he alleged, the reverse is true: citizens now fear a government he described as “brazen, wicked, nonchalant and [one that doesn’t] give a damn.”
He further criticised the president’s public comments on politics. “You have a president who has come out on air to tell the whole world that all is fair in politics. Rigging is fair in politics. Violence is fair in politics. Ballot snatching is fair in politics… You are a president. You are supposed to be a mentor. The words of presidents are supposed to be quotations on a daily basis.”
Melaye concluded: “You have a president who is saying, ‘Take it, grab it and run away with it.’ You think the people are not watching? And I am telling you that the results will tell in January 2027.”
