2027: Rivers Assembly Candidate Dumps NDC, Pitches Tent With ADP

Popular Okrika-born philanthropist and grassroots politician Hon. Desmond Stephen has resigned from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and joined the Action Democratic Party (ADP).

In a resignation letter dated May 25, 2026, Stephen thanked the NDC leadership and members for the opportunities and political experience he gained while in the party.

He said the decision followed careful reflection and was driven by his commitment to serve Okrika with renewed energy and a clearer sense of purpose.

Stephen is now the ADP’s candidate for Okrika Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Known for his community outreach, youth empowerment programmes and advocacy for local development, he explained that the ADP platform better aligns with his vision for improved education, infrastructure, healthcare and economic opportunities in Okrika.

His defection has attracted significant attention across the constituency, with supporters describing it as a bold move toward more responsive and people-centred representation.

Confirming the resignation in a telephone conversation with Vanguard on Saturday, Stephen stated that “the decision was born out of my desire to give a good representation to my people.”
