Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will ensure opposition candidates, including Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), face continuous political crises and pressure ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday during an inspection of infrastructure projects, Wike dismissed claims of a “leading opposition party” in Nigeria, insisting that the opposition is weak and fragmented.
“I have told you, when you say we are leading the opposition, I have told you there is no opposition. What do you have? People who are just looking to see if they can stay relevant,” Wike said.
He argued that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), once considered the main opposition, had been crippled by internal crises, leaving no strong political force to challenge the ruling party.
Wike added that his mission was to keep opposition figures unsettled:“My job is to make them feel unwell all day because they will have high blood pressure. I think that’s my job, to make them have high blood pressure.”
The minister vowed to intensify efforts to destabilize opposition ranks, stressing that he was not interested in helping them perform better politically.
“I’m not here to make them perform well. Everyone understands now what they’re going through, and I’m going to make things even harder for them,” he said.
