Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has voiced strong criticism of President Bola Tinubu, expressing hope that he will be the last “embarrassing president” Nigeria will have.
Adebayo’s remarks followed a meeting between President Tinubu and a delegation of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria on July 28.
The meeting sparked controversy after Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, revealed that Tinubu dismissed concerns raised by the bishops about worsening economic hardship in the country.
Reacting to the incident, Adebayo said the bishops should have immediately called for an emergency national prayer, describing Tinubu’s comments as irresponsible.
“That President they met cannot be the kind of leader God wanted us to have. Either our sins are too many, or his own sins are exposing him,” Adebayo stated.
He added that the clergy must continue to pray and speak the truth to power, stressing that Nigeria deserves better leadership.“I believe President Tinubu, I hope, is the last of the embarrassing presidents we will be having,” he concluded.
