2027: Ekiti PDP, APM Launch Grassroots Drive for Makinde’s Presidential Ambition

Stakeholders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ekiti State gathered in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday to map out plans for grassroots mobilisation behind Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential bid for the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, convened by PDP chieftain Mrs Lanre Fajuyi and tagged the “APM Awareness Campaign,” brought together representatives from the state’s 16 local government areas. Participants included PDP members, youths, women, artisans and other key groups.

Fajuyi said the effort was driven by the belief that Makinde “represents the kind of leadership the country needs at the present time.” She described the campaign as a push to sensitise supporters and strengthen the PDP-APM alliance as a credible alternative to the current administration.

“Nigerians are yearning for a government that will genuinely serve the interests of the masses, promote democratic governance, and address the economic and social challenges confronting the country,” she told the gathering. “I’m calling on the PDP and APM members across Ekiti to begin early grassroots mobilisation for his emergence as president in 2027.”

Makinde became the APM’s presidential candidate after the formalisation of the PDP-APM alliance in May 2026. The partnership is widely viewed as an opposition coalition aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

South-West PDP/APM spokesperson Sanya Atofarati explained that the alliance seeks to preserve multi-party democracy and offer a viable platform for opposition participation. He noted legal and internal challenges facing the PDP as a key reason members are looking to the APM as an alternative vehicle for contesting elections while remaining active in the political process.

APM Vice Chairman in Ekiti State, Remilekun Solola, described the collaboration as a strategic step toward building a credible opposition ahead of the polls. The stakeholders pledged to intensify early mobilisation across the state in support of Makinde’s presidential aspiration.
