Uzodimma Approves N25bn Judges’ Quarters, N1.9bn CBT Centres in Imo

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has approved the construction of judges’ quarters valued at N25 billion as part of efforts to enhance the welfare of judicial officers in the state.

The approvals were disclosed on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, after the State Executive Council meeting held in Owerri.

Emelumba explained that the council approved the construction of 40 duplexes with recreational facilities to serve as judges’ quarters. “The project is designed to provide a conducive living environment for judicial officers,” he said.

In addition, the council approved N1.9 billion for the establishment of four computer-based test (CBT) centres in Orlu Zone to improve access to JAMB and other examinations. Of this amount, N900 million will be released immediately to commence work at two pilot centres located at Bishop Shanahan Okoye Secondary School and Community Secondary School, Omuma.

The council also endorsed the creation of Imo Signage Asset Management Limited, which will regulate and deploy smart digital billboards through a public-private partnership.

Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, Chimezie Amadi, noted that the signage initiative would be funded entirely by private investors, stressing that it would come “at no cost to the Imo State Government.” He added that the project would leverage Internet of Things-enabled infrastructure to build a modern, digitally managed signage ecosystem.
