Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, in collaboration with the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, have neutralised two suspected terrorists and rescued three kidnapped persons during a clearance operation in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The operation took place between July 16 and 17, 2026. Troops advanced from Takum in Taraba State to Tse Togo and Utenge communities across River Yooyo at Orter Camp, where the terrorists had established a base.
In a fierce gun battle, the troops killed two terrorists. The rescued victims are Mr Nyityo Abraham (a teacher), Mr Uzuegwu Chukwuemeka Decency (a spare parts dealer), and Mr Terhember Tavarshima (a farmer), all from Katsina-Ala LGA. Several other captives reportedly escaped during the exchange of fire.
Items recovered from the terrorists’ camp include one AK-47 rifle, one G3 rifle with optic sight, one pistol, 19 AK-47 magazines, various rounds of ammunition, a Moniepoint POS machine, and two pairs each of desert and woodland camouflage uniforms.
Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE, Maj. Gen. Moses Gara, commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism.
He reiterated the commitment to rid the area of terrorists and criminal elements while appreciating the support of sister security agencies and local communities.
