Troops of the 17 Brigade, Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma, in collaboration with hybrid security forces, have foiled a planned terrorist attack on commuters along the Kakumi–Guga Road in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, neutralising eight suspected terrorists.
Security sources told counterinsurgency reporter Zagazola Makama that the operation was triggered by credible intelligence indicating that armed men loyal to a notorious terrorist leader, Idi Abasu Aiki, were mobilising to attack motorists and other road users in the area.
The suspected terrorists were reportedly sighted advancing towards the road on five motorcycles.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops and hybrid forces moved into position and set up an ambush along the route.
In the ensuing fierce gun battle, eight of the assailants were killed. Following the engagement, security forces exploited the area and recovered two AK-47 rifles and the five motorcycles used by the terrorists.
Security personnel have since intensified patrols and monitoring in the area to forestall any possible retaliatory attacks on nearby communities or road users.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by Operation Fansan Yamma to curtail the activities of terrorist groups, restrict their freedom of movement, and enhance overall security across Katsina State and the North-West region.
