Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded a significant success in their counter-terrorism efforts with the surrender of two senior terrorist commanders in Borno State.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the acting media information officer at the headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri, the two commanders surrendered to troops in Sector 2, Geidam, on July 4, 2026. They were brought to Maiduguri on the evening of July 5 and are now in military custody, where they are undergoing profiling, debriefing, and intelligence exploitation.
The military described the surrendered terrorists as "Munzirs" — influential figures within the terrorist leadership structure. Preliminary interrogations indicate they possess detailed knowledge of the group's operational activities, command structure, logistics, and support networks.
The statement highlighted that intelligence gathered from the commanders is already providing valuable insights that will support ongoing operations aimed at disrupting and dismantling remaining terrorist enclaves in the North East.
"This latest development represents another major setback for the terrorist faction," the statement noted. It attributed the surrenders to sustained military pressure through coordinated land and air operations, enhanced intelligence, and relentless offensives that have eroded the terrorists' freedom of movement and command capabilities.
Operation HADIN KAI described the incident as further evidence of the growing disintegration of terrorist groups in the region, with more leaders and fighters reportedly finding continued resistance unsustainable.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining operational momentum until the terrorist threat is fully neutralized and lasting peace is restored to the North East.
