Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has assured that President Bola Tinubu and the country’s security agencies are working relentlessly to address insecurity, particularly terrorism and kidnapping.
The First Lady made the remarks on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Ambassador of Qatar to Nigeria, Yousef Bin Hassan Al-Hail, and the embassy’s Consul, Mr. Khalifa Al-Khalifa.
Mrs. Tinubu emphasised that Nigeria remains a vast and beautiful country blessed with peaceful, friendly, and patriotic citizens. She acknowledged terrorism and kidnapping as the primary security challenges but expressed confidence in ongoing efforts to overcome them.
“The President is doing everything possible, alongside members of the armed forces, to tackle these challenges,” she said. “We are hopeful. We believe Nigeria will be great in our time and will take its rightful place among the comity of nations.”
She also encouraged young Nigerians to explore the country’s rich cultural and natural attractions through tourism, which she described as an untapped source of employment and national wealth beyond oil, lithium, and gas.
The Qatari Ambassador commended Nigeria’s diversity, economic importance, and potential. He admitted that negative social media narratives had initially made him apprehensive about his posting, but his actual experience revealed a welcoming country with good weather, wonderful people, and beautiful landscapes.“Before I came, I was afraid of Nigeria because of what I saw on social media, but my experience has been completely different. Nigeria feels like home,” he said.
Al-Hail called for stronger bilateral ties, especially in aviation and tourism, and suggested increasing flights between Qatar and key Nigerian cities like Abuja and Lagos. He also urged Nigerians to avoid cyberbullying and the spread of misinformation that harms the country’s image.
The meeting highlighted mutual interest in deepening cooperation between Nigeria and Qatar for economic development and regional stability.
