Tinubu Praises Wike as Remodelled Abuja City Gate Symbolises Capital’s Renewal

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for transforming Abuja, describing the newly remodeled Abuja City Gate as a powerful symbol of national renewal, unity, and progress.

Represented by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the commissioning ceremony on Thursday, President Tinubu said the upgraded landmark aligns with the third anniversary of his administration and the 50th anniversary of the Federal Capital Territory.

“It gives me great pleasure to join you this evening for the commissioning of the remodeled Abuja City Gate,” the President said. “Today’s event is particularly significant as it forms part of two important national milestones.”

Tinubu described the City Gate as one of Nigeria’s most recognisable monuments and a key first impression for visitors to the capital. He highlighted features such as the water fountain representing the 36 states and the FCT, saying it communicates unity, diversity, and shared aspirations.

The President added that the remodeled structure can now stand proudly alongside iconic monuments in major cities worldwide.

He specifically praised Wike’s relentless efforts in transforming Abuja through infrastructure projects, including road construction, expansion of public spaces, and rehabilitation of critical facilities.

“I commend the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, His Excellency Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON, for remodeling the monument and for your relentless dedication to transforming the general ambience of the Federal Capital Territory,” Tinubu stated.

“When you share a vision with a man of action, you see results. Minister Wike, you have proven once again to be a true driver of the Renewed Hope Agenda. I say, well done.”

Wike, in his remarks, revealed that the project was initiated at the instance of the First Lady, who insisted that the entrance to the nation’s capital must reflect its stature.

He noted that President Tinubu had also questioned why such a strategic monument had been left in poor condition. Despite challenges like persistent rainfall, Wike insisted the commissioning must proceed as scheduled.

The Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, also described the remodeled gate as a visible symbol of the Renewed Hope agenda and commended both the President and Wike for restoring Abuja’s glory.

The upgraded City Gate, originally built in 1991, now features enhanced lighting, landscaping, and a multi-coloured fountain, aimed at giving the capital a more welcoming and dignified appearance.
