Tinubu dissolves committee on privatisation of FG properties, Hands Duties to AGF

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, a body created in 2000 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The directive, announced Thursday by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, transfers all responsibilities of the 25‑year‑old committee to the Attorney‑General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

According to the Presidency, the decision effective November 5, 2025, follows a review that found the PIC had strayed beyond its original mandate, sparking widespread litigation.

The committee’s secretary, B. S. Dutsin‑Ma, was instructed to cease acting on behalf of the government in all related matters.

Established to oversee the sale and lease of federal assets under Obasanjo’s monetisation policy, the PIC played a central role in converting government housing, vehicles, and other assets into cash.

While the policy was hailed as one of the era’s most consequential reforms, it also triggered decades of disputes over property valuation, alleged insider sales, and protracted court cases.

By dissolving the committee, Tinubu’s administration signals a shift toward tighter legal oversight of federal asset management.
