Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has claimed that three state governors recently prevented him from visiting their states.
Obi made the allegation during an interview with The Sun while addressing concerns about threats to his life. He did not name the specific states involved.
“I have tried to go to about three states, but the governors would say that I shouldn’t come,” Obi stated. “The question is: don’t we have freedom of movement in Nigeria? Why would anybody tell me not to come to a state?”
He further alleged that he was warned his life would be in danger if he proceeded with the visits, describing the actions as a violation of his freedom of movement linked to his political activities.
The development comes amid ongoing political tensions ahead of future elections. In July 2025, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo had publicly warned Obi against entering the state without prior security clearance.
Obi has also raised broader concerns in recent public statements, claiming that authorities are frustrating his movements and activities.
