Surulere Obidient women protest ‘sale of NDC tickets to highest bidders’

Some aggrieved members of the Surulere Obidient Women have protested alleged imposition of candidates and the “sale of political tickets to the highest bidders”.

The protesters accused leaders of sidelining the wishes of members in the selection of candidates, calling on the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to ensure that the people’s choices are respected.

Led by Nkechi, a comrade and activist, the group marched to the residence of Titi Oworu, national mobiliser of Obidient Women, to register their grievances over what they described as irregularities in the Surulere chapter.

The women demanded that the party leadership reverse what they alleged was the imposition of candidates and allow those they described as the rightful candidates to be elected.

Claribel, who addressed the protesters at Oworu’s residence, appealed for calm and assured them that their concerns would be communicated to the national mobiliser.

The protesters, however, insisted on speaking directly with Oworu, saying they wanted to ensure their grievances were conveyed without distortion.

Responding to the women, Oworu acknowledged their complaints and assured that she would look into the allegations and take appropriate action.
