Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, supported by personnel of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force, have successfully repelled an attempted mass abduction by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College in Monguno, Borno State.
The attack occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday. The FGGC facility is currently serving as temporary hostel accommodation for students of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno, under an arrangement by the Borno State Government.
According to a statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Capt. Mohammed Goni, the terrorists gained initial access with suspected internal collaboration but were immediately engaged by alert security forces.
Reinforcements from Sector 3 Quick Reaction Force arrived swiftly, forcing the attackers to flee without abducting anyone.
All 46 students were rescued and evacuated to Kinnasara Barracks, Monguno, where they received medical assessment and care.
They have been confirmed medically stable. However, some students were tragically killed by sporadic gunfire from the terrorists during the exchange.
Parts of the school infrastructure were damaged in the firefight. The military has extended condolences to the families of the deceased and stated that efforts are underway to track the fleeing terrorists and apprehend their suspected collaborators.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to protecting educational institutions and critical infrastructure across the North-East while maintaining relentless pressure on terrorist groups.
