Several persons were reportedly killed after suspected armed
herders attacked Sai community in Katsina-Ala LGA of Benue state on Tuesday.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on
the Lake Chad region, reported that many others sustained injuries during the
attack.
The publication, citing sources, said the attackers invaded
the community in large numbers, opening fire on residents and setting several
houses ablaze.
Makama said the villagers fled into nearby bushes for safety
as the attackers struck.
The publication added that security personnel were
immediately deployed to the area after receiving distress calls to restore
normalcy.
Makama noted that several injured victims were evacuated to
nearby medical facilities for treatment, while security operatives commenced
search and rescue operations to account for missing residents and prevent
further attacks.
It added that troops of the Nigerian Army and other security
agencies have since intensified patrols around Sai and adjoining communities to
forestall further violence and reassure residents.
