Senator Onawo Quits ADC Over Internal Crisis, Legal Battles

Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing unresolved internal conflicts and protracted legal disputes within the party.

His resignation was contained in a letter dated July 2, 2026, and addressed to the ADC Ward Chairman in Galadimawa Ward, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The letter, however, stated that the decision took effect from June 15, 2026.Onawo explained that the persistent wrangling and endless court cases at the national level had made it impossible for him to effectively pursue the developmental mandate entrusted to him by his constituents.

“The prevailing circumstances within the current party structure and the endless legal battles it is currently embroiled in no longer provide the cohesion, support, and enabling environment for me to focus squarely on effectively representing my constituents,” he wrote.

The senator stressed that his exit was driven by the need to remain focused on delivering progressive representation, free from distractions caused by the party’s instability.

His departure marks another setback for the ADC, which has faced mounting internal challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.
