Rivers Police Launch 14-Day Health Assessment Programme for Officers, Families

The Rivers State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive 14-day health assessment outreach tagged ‘Know Your Numbers’ for its officers, men, and their families.

The programme, which began on Monday, is being implemented in partnership with Police Health Maintenance Limited and the non-governmental organisation, Healthlink and Bridge Initiative.

It aims to monitor vital signs and detect medical conditions commonly linked to the demanding nature of police work.

Flagging off the initiative at the Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Alhassan Kawu, emphasised that the welfare of personnel remains a top priority.

“The Commissioner recognises that the strength of the Nigeria Police Force lies in the health and wellbeing of its officers, men and their families,” Adepoju stated.

“This outreach is organised specifically for you, the officers and men who serve daily to keep Rivers State safe, and for your loved ones who stand behind you.”

He described the exercise as a token of appreciation for the sacrifices of officers and their families, noting that the Police Medical Department would provide free medical consultation, training, treatment, and health education throughout the period.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police (Medical), Ahunanya Nnadozie, said the programme aligns with the welfare policies of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the directives of the Force Medical Director, Assistant Inspector-General Nkechi Eze.

Nnadozie explained that the ‘Know Your Numbers’ initiative, conceived by the Force Medical Services Department, encourages personnel to regularly monitor key health indicators such as blood pressure, blood sugar level, cholesterol level, and body mass index. The exercise will be extended to other formations within the command.

The South-South Zonal Coordinator of Police Health Maintenance Limited, Edith Peters, urged all officers and their families to take full advantage of the free services during the 14-day period to proactively manage their health.

The outreach is expected to improve the overall fitness and operational readiness of police personnel in the state.
