The House of Representatives has passed the Executive Bill establishing state police, a major step toward decentralising Nigeria’s policing system.
Lawmakers approved the bill during Thursday’s plenary, withdrawing an earlier constitutional amendment proposal in favour of the Executive Bill.
This move aligns with the Senate’s recent passage of its version, bringing Nigeria closer to adopting a dual policing structure designed to strengthen internal security and enhance law enforcement at the state level.
The development marks a turning point in Nigeria’s security architecture, as debates over state-controlled policing have long dominated national discourse.
