Arise News anchor, Rufai Oseni, has called for maximum protection of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, stressing that nothing must happen to him.
Speaking on Tuesday during Arise Television’s Morning Show, Oseni referenced past unresolved political assassinations, warning against any threat to Obi’s safety.
“Peter Obi must be protected at all costs. The unresolved circumstances surrounding the deaths of Bola Ige and Funsho Williams remain a painful reminder that we must never take the safety of our political leaders for granted. We must not hear any story of a mysterious ‘accident’ or unexplained incident. He must be alive, safe, and present for the next election,” Oseni said.
His remarks followed the Abuja Federal High Court’s approval to hear a suit compelling President Bola Tinubu to provide maximum security for Obi.
Concerns over Obi’s safety intensified after he and African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader John Oyegun narrowly escaped an attack by armed hoodlums in Benin City, Edo State, in February 2026. The attackers reportedly shot at Obi, Oyegun, and members of the Obidient Movement while they were en route to Oyegun’s residence.
