Engineer Buba Galadima, a prominent leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has described the potential Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso presidential ticket as a “healing ticket” capable of uniting Nigeria and bridging the country’s deep-seated ethnic and regional divisions.
Speaking in an interview with Arise News on Wednesday, Galadima said he and other members of the Kwankwasiyya movement are backing the alliance because they view it as the best opportunity to rebuild the nation.
“It is our belief that this is the only ticket that can salvage Nigeria. Not only salvage it, but it is a ticket we call the ‘healing ticket,’ designed so that we can forget the past,” Galadima stated.
He emphasised that the partnership aims to strengthen relations between the North and the South-East, urging Nigerians to view Obi as a national leader rather than an ethnic candidate. Galadima revealed that the group has worked for over two years to foster better understanding and reduce tensions between the regions.
According to Galadima, Peter Obi has pledged to personally tackle key challenges in security, agriculture, and education, while involving alliance members in formulating solutions.
He defended the alliance against criticism, noting that previous presidential candidates, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, had also selected running mates from the South-East. Galadima stressed that the ticket transcends ethnic and religious lines.
“This ticket is not about Igbos, Hausas, Yorubas, Islam, or Christianity. This ticket is about Nigeria,” he declared.
If elected, the alliance plans to prioritise job creation, agricultural development, skills acquisition, and local manufacturing to revive the economy and combat unemployment.
