Peter Obi Hit with N50 Billion Defamation Suit, Given 7-Day Ultimatum to Apologize

The National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has issued a formal demand to former Presidential candidate Peter Obi, threatening legal action unless he issues a public apology and pays N50 billion in damages over alleged defamatory remarks.

In a letter from Neplus Ultra Attorneys, signed by Anderson U. Asemota, Peter O. Asimegbe, and Stanley C. Eziefulle, Arabambi’s legal team accused Obi of making false and damaging statements during a podcast interview. Specifically, they claim Obi said Arabambi “does not have an address.”

The lawyers described the statement as malicious and defamatory, arguing it portrayed their client as a faceless individual without legitimacy, credibility, or standing in public life.

They noted that the interview was widely circulated on television and digital platforms, leading to public ridicule and embarrassment for Arabambi.

“Our Client has had a known residential and business address, maintains professional and political affiliations within Nigeria and has never been a person whose whereabouts or identity were unknown,” the letter stated.

The demand letter requires Obi to:

Issue an unreserved public apology broadcast on national television

Publish the apology on his verified social media platforms

Place full-page apologies in national newspapers

In addition, they are demanding N50 billion as compensation for the alleged injury to Arabambi’s reputation, dignity, political standing, and public image. Obi has been given a 7-day ultimatum to comply, failing which legal proceedings will be initiated.

This development adds to the ongoing internal tensions within the Labour Party and comes amid Peter Obi’s continued political activities and public commentary.

No response from Obi or his representatives has been reported as of the time of this publication.
