TikTok personality Habeeb Peller Hamzat has been arraigned before a magistrate’s court in Lagos on three counts of resisting police officers and breaching public peace.
Peller, alongside one Bello Oladipo, was presented before
the court on Monday following an incident that occurred on July 2, 2026, along
the Coastal Road in Lekki, Lagos.
The charges, as read in court, include conspiracy to commit
felony, obstruction of police officers in the discharge of their duties, and
conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
The case stems from a viral video that surfaced last week
showing Peller in an altercation with police officers.
In the clip, the social media influencer alleged harassment
by the officers, claiming he had been cautioned for driving a vehicle without a
plate number.
Peller had insisted that he had just purchased the vehicle.
However, the officers on the scene maintained that he should be taken into
custody. The TikToker further alleged that one of the officers pulled his shirt
and pointed a gun at his head.
According to the charge sheet, the defendants are accused of
obstructing four police officers while they were engaged in their lawful
duties. They are also accused of threatening and recording the officers while
they performed their functions.
The court also charged the defendants with unlawfully
conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace.
