A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Taminu Turaki, held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on Friday, fueling speculation about his possible return to the presidential race ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group had earlier announced Jonathan in absentia as its presidential candidate, formally ratifying his nomination despite his absence at the event.
However, Jonathan has yet to publicly declare his intention to run.Back in May, Jonathan told supporters he would “consult widely” before making a decision, after protesters stormed his Abuja office urging him to contest.
Since then, he has remained silent on the matter and has not addressed the press.
Details of Friday’s meeting remain unclear, but the development underscores ongoing divisions within the PDP and uncertainty over its strategy for 2027.
