The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Wing, has raised alarm over the abduction of a primary school headmaster in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, urging authorities to act swiftly to secure his release.
In a statement jointly signed by the State Chairman, Hassan Fatai, and State Secretary, Salami Olukayode, the union confirmed that M.K. Owoade, headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye, was kidnapped on his farmland on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at about 5 p.m.
The incident was reported to the state leadership by the NUT Itesiwaju branch through an urgent notice, prompting the union to call for immediate intervention. “The development is disturbing and another reminder of the growing security challenges facing teachers and education workers across the country,” the statement read.
The union appealed to the government, security agencies, and relevant authorities to intensify rescue efforts and ensure the safety of teachers and citizens in their communities and workplaces. It expressed solidarity with Owoade’s family, colleagues, and pupils, praying for his safe return.
“We call on the government, security agencies, and relevant authorities to intensify efforts at securing the immediate rescue of the abducted headmaster and ensuring the safety of teachers and all citizens within the communities and their workplaces,” the union added.
The NUT further urged members to remain vigilant, while praying for divine protection against insecurity and for the quick release of the abducted headmaster.
