The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed strong confidence in its ability to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party in the upcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
Speaking on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Osun State APC Governorship Campaign Council in Abuja, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda dismissed the opposition’s chances, comparing the ruling party’s political machinery to a massive trailer overpowering a small commercial tricycle (Keke Napep).
“It is like a trailer facing a keke. I do not know how the political party standing against us in Osun can withstand the strength of these people who are going there to mobilise and win the election in 2026,” Yilwatda said.
He highlighted the calibre of heavyweights being deployed for the campaign, including governors, National Assembly members, ministers, deputy governors, past and present lawmakers, local government chairmen, and key stakeholders from the business community.
The APC National Chairman outlined a robust mobilisation strategy: South-West, South-South, and South-East governors will each take responsibility for one senatorial district, supported by National Assembly members, state lawmakers, and local government officials.
Northern governors will also deploy their chairmen, councillors, and lawmakers for grassroots efforts across Osun State.
Yilwatda described the Osun election as a critical litmus test and dress rehearsal for the APC’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The comments come amid ongoing political realignments in Osun, with Governor Adeleke reportedly leaning towards the Accord Party platform after uncertainty with the PDP and failed overtures to the APC.
