The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced plans to blacklist employers who fail to provide accommodation and transportation for corps members posted to their organisations.
The Director-General of the NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this during a working visit to Kogi State while interacting with corps members.
“Any employer who did not provide accommodation and transportation for Corps Members would be blacklisted from enjoying Corps services,” Nafiu stated.
He urged organisations that engage corps members to improve their welfare, noting that adequate support would boost productivity and overall well-being during the service year.
The NYSC boss also reassured corps members of the Federal Government’s commitment to their security and welfare, while appealing to state and local governments as well as other stakeholders to increase support for the scheme.
Nafiu reminded corps members that “security is everyone’s business” and encouraged them to promptly report suspicious activities to relevant security agencies.
He further advised them to remain disciplined, dedicated to duty, and avoid actions that could tarnish the image of the scheme.
Additionally, he urged corps members to take the post-camp Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training seriously as a pathway to self-reliance and to cultivate a savings culture amid current economic challenges.
The announcement comes as part of broader efforts to enhance the welfare and protection of young Nigerians serving in the NYSC programme.
