The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service says a fire incident has razed 17 containerised lock-up shops at Sabo market in Ikorodu LGA.
Margaret Adeseye, director of the agency, said in a
statement that the emergency was reported at 12:42am, prompting the immediate
deployment of firefighters, who arrived at the scene within 12 minutes.
She said the blaze affected 17 of about 30 containerised
lock-up shops situated on a section of the market, but was swiftly brought
under control before it could spread to neighbouring shops and other
structures.
According to Adeseye, firefighters from the Ikorodu and
Ijede fire stations jointly battled the inferno and successfully contained it,
limiting the extent of the damage.
She added that the cause of the fire has yet to be
determined, noting that an investigation is underway.
