Makinde Visits Rescued Oyo Pupils, Teachers at Military Hospital

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Saturday visited the Military Hospital in Ibadan to see the recently freed Oriire schoolchildren and teachers, who are currently receiving medical care and support at the facility.

The victims, abducted by gunmen in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026, spent over 50 days in captivity before regaining their freedom.

Their release was announced on Friday by the Federal Government, with Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirming that security agencies successfully secured their rescue.

Makinde’s visit comes as part of efforts to ensure the victims receive proper treatment and rehabilitation following their traumatic ordeal.

The governor’s presence at the hospital underscores the state’s commitment to supporting the children and teachers as they recover.

The rescue operation has been hailed as a major success in the fight against abductions, with calls for sustained collaboration between federal and state authorities to prevent future incidents.
