Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has called on the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and the relevant federal ministries to publicly release all documents related to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project amid recent severe flooding in parts of Lagos State.
Speaking on The Morning Show on Arise Television on Wednesday, Oseni challenged the authorities to provide evidence of consultations, correspondence, and mitigation measures taken regarding the project’s potential effects on flooding.
He stated that a project of such magnitude could not have proceeded without proper inter-governmental coordination and environmental studies.
Oseni said: “Today, I would like to challenge the Ministry of Environment in Lagos, and challenge the Federal Ministry of Environment and Works to please show us one mail trail and the negotiations and conversations over the environmental impact assessments.”
He further demanded the full EIA report, including findings on the coastal road’s impact on floodwaters and the proposed mitigation strategies. “I also challenge them to bring out those documents as regards the floods in the other areas,” he added.
The comments come as residents link the ongoing flooding to the construction of the coastal road, with concerns that it may have disrupted natural drainage channels and waterways.
Oseni emphasized the need for transparency and accountability from public officials on the project’s environmental safeguards.
