Kano State to Launch Its Own Commercial Airline

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has announced plans to establish a state-owned commercial airline aimed at creating employment opportunities for indigenes who have completed professional pilot training.

The governor made the disclosure during the 40th Executive Council Meeting at the Government House in Kano, where he received awards, including one from the Kano State Pilot Association for his administration’s support in helping members complete their aviation training and revalidate their licences.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, the proposed Kano Airline is expected to begin operations within the next year.

“By the grace of God, the proposed Kano Airline will commence operations within the next one year. We are committed to providing all the necessary support to actualise the project and ensure its successful operation,” Governor Yusuf said.

He also expressed satisfaction with the performance of Kano-sponsored pilots trained in Jordan and pledged continued support to help them contribute to the state’s aviation sector.

The Chairman of the Kano State Pilot Association, Naziru Ibrahim, commended the governor for his ongoing assistance and appealed for more support to enable members to obtain final certifications for commercial flight operations both locally and internationally.

This initiative forms part of broader efforts by the Kano State Government to boost the aviation sector and provide career pathways for its trained pilots.
