Kuwait reported on Saturday that Iran carried out a fresh attack on one of its electricity and water distillation plants, marking the second such strike in two days and causing a fire at the facility.
According to Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water, the latest assault led to a blaze in one of the plant’s components and forced the deactivation of several power generation units.
The first attack on Friday similarly triggered a fire and inflicted damage on another facility.
Kuwait’s fire service confirmed that Iranian attacks on Saturday sparked blazes at two sites, injuring several firefighters and at least one worker.
The country’s national airline also announced widespread flight rescheduling after temporarily suspending operations at Kuwait International Airport due to rocket and drone threats.
In neighboring Bahrain, the military stated that its air defense systems successfully repelled a wave of Iranian aerial attacks.
Residents reported hearing explosions and air-raid sirens throughout the morning, with the interior ministry noting five siren activations since dawn and urging people to seek shelter.
Bahrain’s army said its defenses “intercepted and destroyed a number of treacherous Iranian aerial assaults.” Iran’s military earlier claimed responsibility for targeting a U.S.-used air base in Bahrain in retaliation for American strikes, according to Iranian state media.
The claimed targets included aircraft shelters, parking areas, fuel storage, and connecting bridges at Sheikh Isa Air Base.
These developments come amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region involving Iran, the United States, and neighboring states hosting U.S. military assets. No immediate casualty figures were released for the Bahrain incidents in the initial reports.
