A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has dismissed the faction of the party recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as a “contraption” that does not reflect the vision of the founding fathers.
Sani made the remark on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, while reacting to last week’s ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which struck out the suit filed by the Taminu Turaki-led faction seeking INEC’s recognition.
“The INEC-recognised PDP is a contraption, far cry from the design of the founding fathers. It is not the original PDP, and we do not accept it,” Sani said.
He explained that the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) has already instituted a matter in court to challenge the situation, stressing that the case will be pursued to its logical conclusion.
According to him, most Nigerians do not believe in the INEC-recognised faction, but he expressed confidence that the “real PDP” would be on the ballot in the coming elections.
“The process of interpreting the judgments of both the Appeal and Supreme Courts is being interrogated. The PDP is the only legacy party still standing, and we will refuse to let it die,” he added.
