Bobrisky, the self-proclaimed transgender woman, says she
continues to undergo HIV testing every six months, even though she has not been
sexually active in years.
In a post shared on her Instagram story on Monday, the
crossdresser, born Idris Okuneye, said her decision is driven by a commitment
to preventive health rather than a reliance on treatment.
“I’m so weird. Every six months, I still go for an HIV test–
even though I haven’t been with anyone in years,” she wrote.
“God knows I just don’t like taking chances or relying on
medication. Prevention and peace of mind will always win.”
Bobrisky, who has long been a controversial figure in
Nigeria’s entertainment scene, has kept her romantic life largely private.
In September 2021, Bobrisky said she decided to become a
woman after struggling for years as a man without progress.
The controversial internet personality also spoke about some
of the perks she enjoys as a “woman”.
“I want to be a woman because being a woman has paved a lot
of ways for me. Women don’t actually know how powerful they are. They don’t
know how to use their resources as a woman,” she had said.
“A lot of them. Some of them get that right, but the
majority don’t. When I was a guy, I didn’t have anything. I was just there
hustling. Nobody wants to talk to you or associate with you because you don’t
have money.
“You only get orders to do this or that like you’re a
servant. But I feel like I’m not in for that; I want to be a boss of my own, so
let me just use what I have to get what I want.”
