‘I never told y’all not to marry’ — GehGeh hits critics as wedding video goes viral

Footage showing Emmanuel Obruste, the content creator popularly known as GehGeh, at a traditional wedding has sparked heated debate online, with many Nigerians casting doubt on whether the ceremony was real.

The self-styled relationship and finance guru shared clips from the event on his X page on Saturday, showing himself and a lady dressed in coordinating burgundy native attire.

GehGeh rocked a flowing agbada, complete with black bead necklaces. An invitation card shown in the post was dated July 26, with a start time of 11 am, and named Mary and Prosper as the couple.

In the caption accompanying the video, GehGeh wrote: “So I no fit represent my brother wey dey abroad?”

He also posted additional clips from the ceremony, including footage of the lady performing the traditional first-feeding rites.

The posts quickly drew backlash from followers and fellow influencers, many of whom expressed disappointment and accused GehGeh of hypocrisy.

Critics were quick to call him out, pointing to his well-known online brand built largely on dishing out relationship advice to men, often with a sharp, critical edge toward women.

They argued that his own marriage seemed to fly in the face of the very messages he had long been pushing.

Among the reactions, fellow content creator Carter Efe alleged that GehGeh’s advice had cost him his 12-year relationship.

Tunde Perry, another commentator, described GehGeh as “a dangerous person” who could not be trusted.

In response to the growing criticism, GehGeh took to social media to defend himself. He argued that he had never explicitly advised anyone against marriage and urged his followers to be more discerning about how they consume online content.

“I never for once told y’all not to get married. Did I? If yes, show me a video of me telling you not to marry,” he wrote.

“Nigerians really don’t understand how social media works. If you know how to use it properly, you will never lack.”

In a recent interview, the content creator also revealed that he has four baby mothers and is expecting children from two additional women.
