The Kano Hisbah board has banned the mobile movie download business, popularly known as “downloading”, across the state
According to BBC Pidgin, Mujahid Aminuddeen, the board’s
deputy commander general, said the ban was introduced to protect young people
from moral decline and curb the spread of harmful content.
He said the board received complaints that some operators
were distributing videos that negatively influenced children and young people.
He added that investigations revealed that some operators
were using the business to distribute pornographic videos and other materials
considered offensive to Islamic teachings, cultural values, and public
morality.
“Our findings show that this business contributes to the
spread of films and videos that contain content contrary to religion, our
culture and good morals,” he said.
“That is why we have decided to stop the business to protect
young people from moral decay and reduce the circulation of harmful content.”
Aminuddeen urged those affected by the ban to explore other
lawful means of earning a living.
He added that Hisbah personnel had been deployed across the
state to enforce the directive, warning that anyone who violates the ban would
face legal action under Kano state laws.
“The board has deployed its personnel to monitor compliance
through routine patrols and enforcement operations across the state,” he added.
“Anyone found violating the directive will face legal action
in accordance with the laws of Kano State.”
