Gunmen Attack Benue Bishop’s Residence, Abduct Seminarian

Suspected bandits have abducted Catholic seminarian Kelvin Ochai after invading the residence of the Catholic Bishop of Otukpo Diocese in Benue State.

The attack occurred on Wednesday in the Asa III area of Otukpo, where the assailants stormed the bishop’s residence and took the seminarian away.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Friday, Rev. Fr. Joseph Aboyi Itodo, Chancellor of the Diocese, said Bishop Michael Apochi expressed deep sorrow over the abduction and urged the faithful to pray for Ochai’s safe release.

“We commit our brother and all those in the kidnappers’ den throughout the country to the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary for their speedy and safe release,” the statement read.

The diocese also extended prayers to other Nigerians currently held captive by bandits and criminal groups.

This latest abduction comes just days after renewed violence in Benue State, where suspected armed herders killed at least three people and injured two others in separate attacks on Elulu and Agadagba communities in Ohimini Local Government Area.
