The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has issued a N10bn defamation threat against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi following allegations linking him to murder, bribery, and other criminal activities.
A letter dated July 6, 2026, signed by Kemi Pinheiro (SAN) of Pinheiro LP, Gbajabiamila’s legal representatives, demanded that Adeyemi retract his claims and issue a public apology.
The move comes after Adeyemi’s June 25 press conference, where he accused Gbajabiamila of demanding a share of the alleged N27.4bn take-off grant of the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). Adeyemi, who is facing criminal charges for forgery and impersonation, also described the Chief of Staff as “a murderer” and “an assassin.”
Legal Demands
The letter ordered Adeyemi to:
Remove all transcripts, videos, and recordings of the press conference from every platform.
Publish a full retraction and apology in at least five national newspapers and across social media.
Provide a written undertaking to desist from further publications about Gbajabiamila.
Failure to comply within 72 hours, the lawyers warned, would result in criminal defamation proceedings under FCT law and a civil suit seeking N10bn in damages, to be paid to a charity of Gbajabiamila’s choice.
Adeyemi’s accusations included claims that Gbajabiamila demanded 48% of the PFIPC’s grant, received N400m through proxies, abused his office, manipulated security agencies, and acted under the influence of intoxicants.
Gbajabiamila’s lawyers dismissed all nine allegations as “false and gravely defamatory,” stressing that the Chief of Staff has never had any personal or official dealings with Adeyemi.
Adeyemi is currently listed as a defendant in Charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/652/2026 at the Federal High Court, Abuja, over allegations of forging Gbajabiamila’s signature and counterfeiting presidential documents.
While Adeyemi insists the PFIPC is legitimate—citing its appearance in the 2026 Appropriation Act—the Presidency maintains that the council is fictitious. Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has called for an independent probe into both Gbajabiamila and Adeyemi.
Adeyemi is scheduled to appear in court on July 27, 2026.
