Students of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, on Tuesday shut down academic activities and blocked the Minna–Bida Road in protest over worsening insecurity around their hostels.
The demonstration followed the alleged killing of a student during a robbery attack three days earlier, and another incident on Monday night that reportedly left several students injured.
Angry students barricaded the university’s main gate, preventing lecturers, staff, and principal officers from entering the campus.
The protest also disrupted the scheduled computer-based aptitude test for 100- and 300-level students.
Protesters accused the university management of failing to address repeated attacks on off-campus residents despite collecting a ₦10,000 security levy from students each academic session.
Speaking on the situation, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Lydia Legbo, said management was engaging relevant stakeholders to restore peace and improve security in affected communities.
She assured that measures were being put in place to tackle the challenges and ensure normalcy returned.
