Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Friday arrived at the Rivers State House of Assembly to formally present the 2026 Appropriation Bill for consideration and passage.
The move comes two weeks after the Assembly approved the 2026–2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), which outlines the government’s revenue projections and spending plans over the three-year period and forms the basis for the annual budget.
Governor Fubara had been expected to present the budget earlier, but political tensions between the executive and legislative arms reportedly caused a delay.
According to earlier reports, the proposed 2026 budget is estimated at around ₦1.84 trillion.
Some stakeholders have defended the timing of the presentation, noting that President Bola Tinubu had previously presented a Rivers State budget to the Senate following the declaration of a state of emergency and the appointment of an administrator for the state.
They argue that the current presentation aligns with the expiration timeline of the previous approved budget.
The presentation is seen as a key step toward restoring normal fiscal processes in the state amid ongoing political developments.
Further details on sectoral allocations and priorities are expected to emerge as the Assembly begins its review.
