President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has highlighted the Federal Government’s massive infrastructure push in Nigeria’s North Central region, disclosing that 61 road projects are currently underway across the six states in the zone.
Tinubu made the disclosure on Friday during the inauguration of the rehabilitation of the Babban-Lamba-Sharam Phase II Road in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State.
He was represented at the event by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
According to the President, five road projects have already been completed in the region, while 25 major road projects and 31 emergency road projects are ongoing.
He described the scale of intervention as unprecedented for the North Central, stating that the zone had “never previously benefited from federal infrastructure initiatives of this magnitude.”
Tinubu emphasized that the projects form part of a broader national connectivity drive linking all geopolitical zones, North-West, North-East, North-Central, South-South, South-East, and South-West through what he called “four major legacy projects” of his administration.
“This has never been done before. It represents the largest road infrastructure programme in the history of our country,” he said.
The President also touted the positive outcomes of his administration’s economic reforms, noting improvements in GDP, stronger foreign reserves, and a better investment outlook for Nigeria.
He added that increased government revenue is enabling many state governments to fund projects with less reliance on loans or bonds.
In his remarks, Minister of Works, David Umahi, expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects in Plateau State and the wider North Central region, attributing the gains to the largest road infrastructure programme being implemented under President Tinubu’s administration.
