A wave of bandit attacks has forced residents to flee Tashar Mayanchi and more than 10 neighbouring communities in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, leaving once-thriving villages largely deserted.
Security analyst Bakatsine, in a post shared on X Thursday, revealed that the assaults lasted four consecutive days, driving families from their homes in search of safety.
He added that more than 40 people remain in captivity following the raids.Local sources fear that continued displacement could expose the Zamfara–Sokoto highway to further threats, isolating affected communities and worsening insecurity in the region.
Bakatsine lamented the situation, asking: “How many more rural communities must be emptied before meaningful security reaches there?”
The attacks highlight the growing vulnerability of rural settlements in Zamfara, where banditry has repeatedly disrupted lives, forced mass displacement, and undermined economic activity.
