A Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has ordered Prophet Tamarauebi Elisha Owan, founder of GreatGod Holy Tabernacle, to pay ₦200 million in damages for unlawfully destroying a traditional Egbesu shrine linked to Niger Delta leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
Delivering judgment on June 29, 2026, Justice H.A. Nganjiwa condemned the prophet’s actions as unconstitutional and a violation of the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion.
The court also issued a mandatory injunction directing Owan and his congregation to rebuild the Osuopele Beniseide Opu-Oru Temple, the shrine destroyed during the incident.
The case stemmed from events on December 20, 2024, when Owan and members of his church allegedly stormed the temple in Ojobo community under the guise of “combating evil spirits,” causing extensive damage.
