APC Commends Police for Foiling Assassination Attempt on Osun Campaign DG

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the state Police Command for successfully foiling an alleged assassination attempt on Wole Oke, Director-General of the party’s Governorship Campaign Council.

The police, on Thursday, paraded three suspects disc jockey Olalekan Oriyomi, Ayotunde Ikupolati (44), and Femi Fakinleye (31) in connection with the plot, which reportedly targeted Oke in Ipetu Ijesa.

A Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition was recovered from one of the suspects. In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, on Friday, the Osun APC praised the police for their proactive steps in tackling criminal elements in the state.

“Had it been the suspected assassins who succeeded, the state would have been thrown into another mourning session, which the lying merchants in the state would have loaded its causes on our party without waiting for the police investigation,” the statement read.

The party expressed full confidence in the police to conduct a thorough investigation aimed at exposing, arresting, and prosecuting all individuals directly or indirectly linked to the crime. The APC, however, criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke and the state chairman of the Accord Party, Victor Akande, for failing to condemn the assassination attempt days after the incident.

The party further questioned whether the state should be turned into a “killing field” over the re-election bid of a governor it described as having performed poorly and rejected by the people. It urged the police to intensify efforts to rid the state of political hoodlums and pursue influential figures allegedly mentioned by the arrested suspects, who are said to be cooperating with investigators.

The APC called on its members to continue canvassing support for its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election, expressing confidence in his victory. The development comes as political tensions rise in Osun State ahead of the polls.
