Ibikunle Amosun, former governor of Ogun state, has endorsed Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, ahead of the 2027 elections in the state.
Amosun announced his support after hosting Adeola and other
APC leaders at his residence in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta.
The former governor said the visit marked the end of
divisions within the party following its primary election.
“With this visit, we are now one united family. Virtually
all the leaders that came with you are my people. The senator is our party’s
candidate and all must support him to win the general election,” Amosun said.
He added that the party should move beyond the contest that
produced its candidate and focus on winning the governorship election.
Amosun said the primary election and the rivalries that
accompanied it were over, urging party members to work together and strengthen
support at the grassroots for both electoral success and development.
Earlier, Adeola said he visited the former governor to
appreciate his contributions to Ogun and the country, and to thank him for
supporting his emergence as the APC’s consensus governorship candidate.
The senator, who chairs the senate committee on
appropriations, also apologised for any actions that might have offended Amosun
and sought his support as the party prepares for the 2027 election.
Adeola was accompanied by several APC leaders and
stakeholders, including Salmot Badru, former deputy governor of Ogun; Kunle
Salako, minister of state for health and social services; Lekan Mustapha;
Muyiwa Oladipupo, Titi Oseni, Suraj Adekumbi, and Kunle Oluomo, all former
speakers of the Ogun house of assembly; Daisi Elemide, speaker of the Ogun
house of assembly; Temitope Adeola; Kayode Egbetokun, former inspector-general
of police; Gboyega Isiaka; and Adekunle Akinlade, among other party leaders.
On April 13, Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, announced
Adeola as the APC consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship race.
