ADC uploads Atiku, Amaechi’s names, particulars to INEC nomination portal

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it has uploaded the names and particulars of Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, its presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 general election to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s national publicity secretary, announced the development in a statement posted on X on Tuesday night.

“We are pleased to announce that we have successfully uploaded the names and particulars of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar (GCON), and our vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi (CON), to the nomination portal of INEC,” the statement reads.

Abdullahi described the submission as another milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general election.

He said the move reflects the ADC’s commitment to offering Nigerians “a credible alternative built on competence, unity, and national renewal”.

On May 27, Atiku won the ADC’s presidential primary election.

The former vice-president polled 1,846,370 votes to defeat two other contenders — Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, former managing director of the defunct FSB International Bank, and Amaechi, former governor of Rivers.

Amaechi polled 504,117 votes while Hayatu-Deen got 177,120 votes.

Speaking after he was presented with the ADC flag as the party’s standard-bearer for the 2027 elections, Atiku asked Hayatu-Deen and Amaechi to “close ranks and join me in the fight to rescue Nigeria’s democracy”.

He added that there is no winner and no vanquished in the contest.

On June 16, the opposition party announced Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate.

In a statement, Abdullahi said the NDC national leadership picked Amaechi after “extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, and representatives of all geopolitical zones”.

He said as one of Nigeria’s “most experienced and respected political leaders”, Amaechi enjoys “widespread support from party members across the federation”.
